With some modest reconfiguration, larger windows and a skylight, we helped to transform this kitchen from dark and cramped to light-filled and inviting.

As part of the renovation to this basement level family room, we removed the white dropped ceiling, and painted the exposed wood structure a near-black color. Seems counterintuitive, but the dark ceiling recedes from view and helps a short space feel more expansive.
