GLEN RIDGE LIBRARY

Since 2018, DKAD has provided consultation to the Library’s Board of Trustees regarding upgrades and modifications to improve an already exemplary facility.  The first project to come to fruition is a pavilion to shelter remote access pick-up lockers.  Identified in a user survey as a need to expand access to the library’s collection, pick-up lockers were added as a means to obtain requested materials outside of normal operating hours.

Understanding that these lockers would primarily be used in the evening, visibility and safety were paramount considerations.  Accessibility was also a critical component.  In addition to these performative requirements, the structure needed to complement and integrate effectively with a building listed on the State’s Historic Registry.

Built into the landscape on the north side of the entry plaza, the pavilion complements the original historic library building.

Digital modeling provided comprehensible verification of the relationship between the pavilion and the existing building before construction was undertaken.

The pavilion was designed to accommodate future expansion of the bank of pick-up lockers.

Full-scale drawings aided in the execution of the details of the pavilion.
